Work experience students
2022
Designed and facilitated a week-long work experience placement for GCSE aged students, where they completed a mini research project. This included:
- a safety induction
- introduction to the research field
- fieldwork for sample collection
- laboratory work
- data processing and interpretation
- a poster presentation.
Fieldwork supervision
2019 - present
One-to-one training and supervision for postgraduate students who conduct fieldwork:
- from river banks and lake piers
- on coastal seas and lakes from small boats
- in ocean environments from large ships.
This encompasses planning and preparation stages, including risk assessments and CoSHH forms, to sample collection, transport and storage.
Laboratory supervision
2015 - present
- Marine Biology BSc and Zoology BSc class laboratory demonstrations and support, and grading of associated coursework.
- Laboratory and data processing training in specialist techniques for BSc dissertation projects, and feedback on dissertation drafts.
- One-to-one laboratory training and guidance for MPhil and PhD students.
- Training and advice for the general maintenance of specialist equipment to technical and academic colleagues.
